Our Must Have Read, Ghosts (and why you need to read it now) - Salt and Freckles Boutique Book of the Month Club!

This Month I wanted to feature a great read that I devoured while on my trip to Santa Fe!!! I had recently done a google search for best books of the year and splurged on a mixture of about 10 classics and current reads with great reviews. I don't even know that I read the preview to any of these books. I acted purely on impulse as well as a 5 minute window allotted to book browsing from my 4 and 6 year old boys.

If I'm being very honest, I think I chose this book to read first simply by the cover art. Real serious research went into this find folks. 

But nonetheless, proved very fruitful.

Ghosts, written by Dolly Aderton, is a "Smart, sexy, laugh out loud romantic comedy about ex-boyfriends, imperfect parents, friends with kids and a man who disappears the moment he says 'I love you'," (courtesy of the inside flap of the book).  The book hilariously dives into female relationships as the life trajectory of each friend takes different turns from that of the author. And for me, this is what makes the book fabulous.

Nina Dean finds herself to be a single female amidst a sea of friends getting married, having babies, buying homes, and seemingly moving forward as they should be with their well-planned lives, while she is stuck in the world of dating apps and big career moves. She meets what appears to be the man of her dreams on said app, only to be ghosted a few months into their relationship.

For me, the ghosting and the man part is fine, but the deliciousness of this book lies in the complicated and honest portrayal of finding yourself while also growing alongside female friends that may be finding themselves, in entirely different ways. 

If you're anything like me, I have such a wide and far reaching friend circle.  Some of those pals are in the mom trenches right alongside of me, and some are traveling the world and brunching on Sundays without a thought of waking up earlier than 10 am.  And this book shoots straight into that exact misalignment. How hard it can be to find commonality, time for one another, and how hard it can be to show up for each other during these seasons of change.

It does so in a truly laugh out loud, grab the tissues sort of way. A kind of book that every woman in their 30's and 40's can relate to. No matter what side of the fence you may be on. And despite the fact that the fence may exist for all of us, in the end its just a fence. And the friendships are so much stronger than that. 

Loved every second of this journey. So glad I read it. So glad it made me see my best girlfriends, every damn one of them, in a more beautiful and understanding light.
